Meet the Artist

I am a full time seascape and landscape artist working primarily in my native Northumberland where I combine my love of the great outdoors with a never ending passion for producing artwork that reflects the beauty of the natural environment.
Walking, running, surfing and creating art all play a major part in my life and the pristine coastline of Northumberland is both my playground and creative workplace. My first career path in the Royal Air Force gave me a love of wild places and huge open skies which continues to foster my passion for travel and sees me painting outdoors in many beautiful wild locations both in Britain and worldwide.
Out there on the beaches, headlands
or in the water on my surfboard I am constantly observing the colours, textures, light effects and movement of sea, sand and sky.
Sketching and painting outdoors is so important to me and plays a huge part in the preparatory stages of my art. I love to use all sorts of media in my outdoor sketches including oils, watercolour, soft pastels acrylic paints and pencils.
My studio is the place where I can really get to work on canvas or board to create finished paintings, mostly in oils or acrylic using my outdoor sketches as reference material.
The sensations of movement in clouds and seas plays a huge part in my work and my main aim is to give the viewer a feeling of a real sense that they are there in the moment at these beautiful places experiencing all the sounds, sights and salty smells.
